I asked for it...

Well, I'm back at work today. So far so good. I'm pretty tired though and will probably only make it until lunch. Still a little sore and definitely moving slow!

In addition to the post-surgery recovery, I've decided to add a diet to the mix. Crazy a little? Yep. I think it will be OK though. Dave and I are both doing it, and that always makes it easier. Since I can't exercise for a few weeks, I need to do something.

We decided on the South Beach diet. Anyone had any luck with that one? It's supposed to be good for people with PCOS because it's low carb. I wrote our meal plan on a dry erase board near the kitchen and we stocked up on meat and veggies. I purged the fridge of all the no-nos like sweets and bread. I am not usually a big meat eater, and I pretty much live on carbs. This will be a big change. I think the hardest thing to give up will be beer. :( Apparently, it's worse than straight sugar. Bummer.

  1. Oh don't say that. Beer's my biggest vice.

  2. I friggin HATED the south beach diet! I managed for 3 weeks. Carbs are my friend. I love them and they love me! I only lost 5 or so pounds. Meh!

I have heard of people having GREAT results from it though. I recommend buying some books on it, I know it helped me alot because EVERYTHING has carbs....even veggies. So ya gotta know what to eat, and what not to especially for the first 2 weeks. Thats the hardest.

  3. TO be honest, I did WW and I think its the best around....You can still eat anything/everything you like but in moderation...you get very hungry the first week but then it gets very easy...It helped me learn how to eat better. I lost 15lbs on it and I would highly recommend it - not that you wnat to change your mind now but I figured Id Let you know....

  6. Having the husband on board is key to success!
As a health major / future diatician I would be leery of anything that reduces your carbs too much. I think that South Beach still allows some carbs and veggies and isn't totally like Atkins right? I lost 20 lbs eating a mediterranian diet - lots of fish and nuts and olive oil. I feel like poo when I don't eat carbs and that doesn't help me stick with a plan.

  7. WFI, I know, me too. I miss it already.

Sarah, I love carbs too. I'm having serious withdrawl issues, but I'm going to stick with it for a while. We'll see how I feel after two weeks!

Melissa, thanks for the recommendation! I've heard mixed things about most diets. I'll see how it goes.

Evergreen, you lucky duck! No diets?

G, I hope I get through it. I'm on day 2 and so far it's midly horrible. :)

Lovecomesfirst, how nice to have a professional! :) It doesn't cut all carbs. They allow tons of veggies. And after the 2 week "strict" period, they add back in some things like whole grain bread and brown rice, etc. I think it will be great if I can just make it past this part.

  8. I've done South Beach and I have PCO-like ovaries. Did lose a few pounds, but also started Metformin as well, so it's hard to say which was more likely to be attributed for the weight loss. Good luck!!
